Benedict scholar selected to participate in a roundtable discussion with Vice President Kamala Harris on January 17
Columbia, SC– January 13, 2023- Benedict College senior Jahavheed George will join his peers from across the country for a spirited roundtable discussion with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Vice President Harris’ conversation with the students will focus on various topics from entrepreneurial ventures to the impact of the Dobbs decision to mental health issues.
“I applaud Vice President Harris for opening the doors of the White House and offering a listening ear to one of our many scholars,” said Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, President and CEO of Benedict College. “I also congratulate Jahavheed on being selected to participate in this important national roundtable. He is the second BEST of BC student selected to participate in the White House Listening Session, this academic year.”
George is an accounting major in his last semester of college. He is described by those who know him well as a natural leader who is very driven and highly motivated. George serves as the treasurer of the Benedict College Tyrone Adam Burroughs School of Business and Entrepreneurship’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants. He was recently named a Center for Financial Advancement Scholar.
“I am excited about this opportunity, not just as a young black man in the field of business, but as a student at the Tyrone Adam Burroughs School of Business at Benedict College,” noted George. “I look forward to putting my best foot forward in representing my HBCU and showcasing the BEST that BC offers.”
George has professional experience working with Just Elevate, LLC, and Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. He is currently working as a Finance Analyst Intern at Dominion Energy. After graduation, George plans to pursue a Certified Managerial Accountant position at a major energy company.
